The first big snows in western Wyoming usually fall around the Christmas holiday, right in time to bring this December surprise. As the inches accumulate into feet, the snow ladens the boughs of trees, blurring the line between earth and foliage. Here, what appears to be a single deer, upon closer examination, reveals a companion, a smaller buck making his way through the cover of spruce. In this winter scene, one mule deer becomes two, as the young bucks travel together through this changing winter wonderland.
