The Queen's Legacy - Grizzly 399
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
Limited Edition of 950 | Artist Proof 95
With nose pointed high, fifteen year old Grizzly 399 sniffs the gentle breeze as she pauses in a meadow of yellow-flowering biscuit root, her favorite food of early spring. Taking their mother's lead, the three cubs mimic her, learning the ancient ways of the grizzly. Raising her first set of triplets near the park roads during the summers of 2006 and 2007, Grizzly 399 gave thousands of people the rare opportunity to observe what became the most famous family of bears in North America. Rarely seen during the following two summers, it was a welcome surprise when 399 emerged in early June of 2011 with this second set of triplets. Remarkably a week earlier, 610, one of 399's now 5-year-old daughters, appeared in her mother's territory near Signal Mountain with a pair of twins. The queen's legacy continues.
