Moon over Red Mountain
San Juan Mountains, Colorado
Limited Edition of 2000 | Artist Proof 200
Marking the longest day of the year in the Rockies, a nearly-full moon rises over Red Mountain in southwest Colorado. Red Mountain Pass crests several of Colorado's centennial peaks, weaving its way through a spectacular landscape. Lava flowing from a collapsed volcanic cone revealed gold within the mineral-rich soils, where mining operations continue today. In a unique show of cooperation, the private lands encompassing some of Colorado's most breathtaking scenery are being purchased, and preserved, through combined efforts of the Trust for Public Land and the locally-organized Red Mountain Task Force.
